Thanksgiving at the Vets Hall in Guerneville
A grateful holiday throng filled the Guerneville Vets Hall last week for free turkey dinners served by the volunteers working with Penny Rivas of God’s Grace, Inc. and the Guerneville Lighthouse Church.“We don’t even know how many people came from all over the place,” to be part of the annual Thanksgiving banquet, said Rivas. “People came from all over the state of California,” said Rivas, who has been orchestrating the free community dinner for 17 years. Donors and supporters were too numerous to count, said Rivas, but she gave prominent credit this year to Santa Rosa’s Willowside Meats for donating 40 smoked turkeys, Guerneville’s Smart Pizza for making their ovens available and Monte Rio’s Northwood Restaurant for providing refrigerator space. “This is the true meaning of thanksgiving,” said Rivas. “Everybody who came gave something. It was unbelievable the amount of thankfulness in the building.”
