We hold these truths to be self-evident: Fourth of July is about eating and drinking with friends and ooing-and-ahing at exploding starbursts in the sky. And wearing clothes that make you look like a walking flag. But as you gather to celebrate our official independence as a country, spare a thought for the radical idea on which this country was based:
“…that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
May it always be so.
Independence Day Celebration—Guerneville
Saturday, June 30, 4 p.m.
Down by the river, along the shops and restaurants of downtown Guerneville, there will be food and activities to celebrate America’s independence. The Friends of Stumptown and Russian River Chamber of Commerce sponsor face painting, raffles, snow cones, BBQ oysters before the fireworks light up the river at 9:30 p.m.
Monte Rio Independence Day Celebrations—Monte Rio Beach

Monte Rio Independence Day Celebrations return to Monte Rio Beach this year with annual traditions and festivities. On Saturday, June 30, don’t miss the Big Rocky Games from noon to 4 p.m. and the firehouse BBQ from noon to 5 p.m. There are more Big Rocky Games from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 1 followed by the boat parade, water curtain and fireworks. Dogs are prohibited from Sunday’s fireworks show.
Fireworks over Bodega Bay
Sunday, July 1, 9:30 p.m.
The Bodega Bay Chamber of Commerce sends fireworks glowing over the bay. Settle yourself anywhere you can see the ocean and you should be able to see the show. Fireworks will start at dark, around 9:30 p.m. There is handicap parking available at Westside Park. The Bodega Bay chamber suggests cool weather clothing for the event.
Independence Day Fireworks and Music Festival—Analy High School, Sebastopol
Tuesday, July 3, 5:30 p.m.
The Kiwanis Club of Sebastopol is hosting its annual fireworks show at Analy High School. Bring friends and family to the football field for food, drinks, dancing and live music before the fireworks show. Fire-works start at 9:40 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children (6-11). Under 5 is free. Camp chairs with four legs are not permitted on the athletic field, so be sure to bring beach chairs with bars across the bottom.
Celebrate Inter-dependence Day at Peacetown Concert on July 4

Join Peacetown for another free season of music, dancing, fun and good vibes at Ives Park in Sebastopol, starting on July 4 (Inter-dependence Day) from noon to 8 p.m. Experience love, joy, Lagunitas beer, fine local wine and food trucks. Fourth of July at the Forestville Certified Farmers Market

You don’t have to miss your local farmers market to celebrate the Fourth of July in Forestville. The Forestville Certified Farmers’ Market will have live music, BBQ pig, oysters and various beverages as well as the usual farm fresh local produce and vendors. Joy Ride will perform from 1 to 3 p.m., and Dogg Gone Onery will close the show from 3 to 8 p.m.
