Cirque du Sebastopol, Oct. 26-27

Take yourself to the circus and join HopMonk for another Halloween hoot for this two-night Halloween special featuring music and surreal entertainments.

Friday, Oct. 26 – Music featuring Diego’s Umbrella, Buck Thrifty, and Shovelman, as well as Cabaret de Caliente (a live burlesque show) and a costume contest. Doors 8 p.m. and show at 9 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 27 features Fred Nasty, the Lost Ones, Mihkal, and Hi Grade. Doors 9 p.m. and show at 10 p.m.

Samhain Ritual with North Bay Reclaiming, Oct. 27

Gather together to honor your beloved dead and celebrate Samhain, the Witch’s New Year. Come and honor your ancestors with community and dance the spiral dance. You are invited to wear your magical black witchy wear. Reclaiming’s intention for this event: “We step into the power and the mystery of the underworld; we remember, we grieve, we dance.” Cost is a sliding scale of $33-$13. No one turned away for lack of funds.

When and where: Saturday, Oct. 27 at The Grange Hall, 6000 Sebastopol Road (Hwy. 12), Sebastopol. Doors open 6:30 p.m. Ritual begins 7 p.m.

High Street Halloween Party, Oct. 27

The famed High Street Halloween Block Party is back. Earstu will be kicking off the music at 7:30 p.m. The Black Sheep Brass Band will be dishing out their Sonoma-grown brass-fed funk outside from 8:30 to 10 p.m. in the street below Rick Rozet’s house. Dancing and costumes highly encouraged. After 10 p.m., the party moves from High Street into Rick’s house and the party pad proper. There is a cover charge for the house party portion of this event. Bar drinks and custom eats provided via donation.

Costume Party at Crooked Goat Brewing, Oct. 27

Come dressed up and enjoy live music from Rock Candy, 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a costume contest and DJ Sweet Lou from 8-11 p.m.

Spiders of Sonoma County, Oct. 28

Come spend an afternoon at Hallberg Butterfly Gardens learning all about the many types of spiders that live in Sonoma County. From the iconic orb weavers who create outstanding geometric webs, cobweb weavers who love to fill spaces in empty corners of our homes and sheds, to the charismatic jumping spiders that hang out on our fences and walls. You’ll learn where to look for them, how to start identifying some of them, and most importantly, that most spiders are a lot less harmful than the media makes them out to be. This event includes a presentation and a garden walk, led by naturalist and spider enthusiast Emily Robinson. All guests with an open mind and willingness to learn are welcome to join us.

Halloween-themed acoustic music perfect for a chill Sunday evening. You’ll hear classics like “Monster Mash” and “Thriller” and originals like “Ghost Army” and “Julie (is a Bloodsucker),” plus tunes that aren’t Halloween-related but are sure to put you in a good mood. There will be ukuleles, guitars, cajon, percussion and keyboards, and lots of surprise collaborations.

Spirit Works Spook-easy Halloween Party, Oct. 29

Spirit Works is hosting their first ever Spookeasy Halloween party. They’ll be pouring three prohibition-era cocktails, hosting bingo in the barrel room, having a raffle with prizes from local food, drink and lifestyle companies, and last but not least… a costume contest. The theme is Speakeasy meets Halloween (think flappers, mobsters, you know the drill) but feel free to wear any costume you’d like.

Entry fee includes three drink tickets and a special door code to get into the party. All proceeds from door sales and raffle tickets will be donated to Lily’s Legacy, a senior dog sanctuary located in Petaluma.

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos in downtown Sebastopol, Oct. 31

Bring your friends, wear your costume and join Sebastopol’s downtown merchants for a day of celebrating and appreciating the season of Día de los Muertos and Halloween.

When and where: Oct. 31, 2 to 9 p.m. in the downtown plaza and various sites around downtown Sebastopol

At 2 p.m.:

  • Trick or treat on Main Street
  • Craft vendors, face painting, hair adorning
  • A public ofrenda (a Day of the Dead altar) will be set up in the gazebo for the afternoon and everyone is welcome to bring a image or flowers or … to be acknowledged and a part of the honoring.
  • A limited number of pumpkins will be available for carving

At 3 to 4 p.m.: “Mommy and Me” Yoga class will be taking place at Yoga Ganesha.

At 5 p.m.: A pumpkin/costume parade will go around downtown at 5 p.m.

At 6 to 8 p.m.: The dhyana Center will be hosting a “Haunted Temple” upstairs in the Basso Building, 186 N. Main St.

At 8 to 9 p.m.: Spooky stories at the Sebastopol library, 7140 Bodega Ave.

Annual Halloween Open House, Oct. 31

Come to the Guerneville Library for fun, games, and treats. Come dressed in a costume and get a free book. All ages welcome.

Halloween at Milk & Honey, Oct. 31

Join Milk & Honey for a Halloween gathering. They’ll have snacks, drinks, and trick-or-treating. There will be tarot readings and space to honor your ancestors. Come and hang out, listen to music, toast to your beloved dead, and honor the turning of the wheel. Gathering starts at 6 p.m., then they’ll show the movie “Practical Magic,” starting at 7 p.m.

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Monte Rio, Nov. 2

Everybody is welcome to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday that is very popular in Sonoma County, Friday Nov. 2, 4 to 7 p.m., at the Monte Rio Community Center.

The centerpiece of the event will be an ofrenda, or altar, where you can place photos, flowers, food and other mementos to honor loved ones who have passed. There will also be traditional snacks, paper flower making, candle lighting, and face painting.

Sponsors include Friends of Monte Rio, the Monte Rio Recreation Park District, River to Coast Children’s Services and the Monte Rio Spanish Class.
