George Robert Ayoob

George Robert Ayoob passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family on November 19, 2018, at the age of 73. He is survived in death by his wife, Valerie Denise Ayoob (Hall), and three children, Patricia Catherine Will (Ayoob) & Russel Will Jr., George Edward Ayoob & Lucinda Ayoob (Gonzales), and Amanda Rae Ayoob. He is also survived by his grandchildren Joshua Patrick Will & Brittany Will (Potts), Allison Denise Will, George Jacob Ayoob, Geordan Lee Ayoob. He is preceded in death by his wife Karen Rae Ayoob (Funck), and his parents George and Frances Catherine Ayoob (Mc Manus).

George, a San Francisco native, was born in 1945. He attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Grammar School and St. Ignatius High School (’63), and started at The University of San Francisco before joining the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marines, he attended the Defense Language Institute in Washington D.C. In the Marine Corps he earned the National Defense Service Metal, Rifle Sharpshooter, and Good Conduct Medal. He worked on huge bay area projects such as, The Golden Gate Bridge, Oakland Bay Bridge, Candlestick Park, Folsom Damn, Six Flags Marine World, Transamerica Pyramid, several Bart stations, and Sutro Tower, to name a few. George was an electrician from 1968 – 2005, retiring from Steiny Electric.

George was an active member in his community, coaching Little League and Softball in Half Moon Bay in the 80’s. He also attended Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church often. In his retirement, he “church hopped” visiting Catholic churches all over the bay area, and anywhere he traveled. He also volunteered in Guerneville feeding the homeless through St. Elizabeth’s.

George grew up spending his summers in Rio Nido at his parent’s cabin, where he developed a lifelong love for the Russian River and the great outdoors. Russian River summers became a family tradition. He found Casini Ranch in 1989 where he would spend summers with his wife Valerie, and often entertained family and friends. George enjoyed hiking, kayaking, fishing, and biking. 

Friends may visit Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4:00pm – 9:00pm at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, where a Rosary Vigil Service will be held at 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 27 at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church 14095 Woodland Drive, Guerneville, CA 95446.
