Here’s how it will work:
The recruitment process is open for those community members interested in running for a MAC representative seat. Applications are available online and in the County Administration office. In order to be qualified to run for a representative seat, interested individuals must:
– Live in the district they wish to represent
– Be a full-time resident
– Be at least 18-years-old
Provide the District 5 office with:
– Candidate statement (No more than 500 words)
The due date for all application materials is Wednesday, Oct. 24 by 5 p.m.
Materials can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, or returned to the D5 office at:
Sonoma County Board of Supervisors
575 Administration Drive, Suite 100A
Santa Rosa, CA 95403
Late applications will not be accepted. If you’re interested in becoming a representative, learn more about the position by downloading the MAC Representative packet here. It can also be found online. Once the application deadline has passed, candidate biographies, resumes and statements will be sent to constituents through many channels, including social media, the MAC newsletter, the MAC website, in local newspapers and more.
Who gets to vote?
Everyone is welcome to vote either by mail-in or provisional ballot. Eligible voters will select candidates from their district only; for example, those who live in the Forestville District will only vote for Forestville representatives and not for representatives from other districts. Registered voters will receive candidate information and a ballot for their specific district by mail after Wednesday, Nov. 7. Ballots can be mailed back or dropped off at the Board of Supervisors office (see above for address).
Ballots will not be accepted if:
– They are postmarked past Saturday, Nov. 17
– Residency cannot be verified at caucus (for provisional ballots only)
– Voter does not live in the district
Those interested in attending the caucus, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, can vote during the day-long event. During the caucus, those running for a representative seat will be available for a meet and greet, discussion and rally for support. Those attending the caucus will be able to cast ballots on-site. The caucus will also allow those community members who aren’t registered voters but want to participate in the MAC the chance to vote. Provisional ballots will be available to those communities who can prove district residency.
Eligible voters will be allowed to vote for one representative (with Forestville and Guerneville districts serving as exceptions; eligible voters within those two districts will vote for two representatives). The runner-up will serve as the alternate representative. The alternate is not required to attend every MAC meeting but will be required to serve when the elected representative is unavailable.
All ballots will be tallied after the caucus event. Selected representatives and district alternates will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 21, prior to the holiday weekend.
